How well do I need to swim to join the Club?

It is difficult to state a particular level that a swimmer should be at prior to joining the Boronia Swimming club as swimming levels vary depending upon the particular swim school each swimmer has attended. Generally, it is expected that any swimmer is capable of swimming each stroke (except butterfly - they will need to have a basic idea of butterfly over 25 metres) using reasonable technique, over a 50 metre distance. The club will not teach a swimmer to swim; it will improve the swimmer's technique through drills, endurance & speed work. The best way to determine whether a swimmer is ready for club swimming is to contact any of the coaches or committee members to arrange a free trial & coaches assessment.

How much training will I need to do?

You can train as often or as little as you like. Following your coach's assessment, the coach will recommend a number of training sessions for you to attend, however, ultimately the decision is yours. The club caters for those who wish to train many times per week as well as those who chose to train only once or twice a week. We do find that the more training sessions our swimmers attend, the more they improve, so the number of sessions any swimmer attends will also depend upon their personal goals.

How much competitive swimming will I need to do?

You can compete as often or as little as you like but as a minimum you need to do at least one training session per week with the club. We do encourage our swimmers to compete, however the decision is yours. There are competitions at club, district, metropolitan & state level. Some swimmers compete as often as they can at all levels however we also cater for those swimmers who do not wish to compete at all. There are varying conditions of entry for each level of competition. It is the role of the Swim Director to encourage & advise swimmers and their families regarding competitions.

Squad training/coaching fees

In addition to membership fees there is a monthly squad training fee. Squad fees are payable monthly and set according to the number of sessions the swimmer has indicated will be attended. Pool entry is included in the squad fees and does not need to be separately paid. Refunds are not given for non-attendance unless a doctor’s certificate is given, or prior arrangements are made with the Squad committee.

Payment procedure

Annual registration fees are paid directly to Swimming Victoria during Registration Week or upon joining at any other time of the year. Squad training fees are payable monthly and can only be altered in writing/email to the Treasurer no later than 2 weeks before end of month. EziDebit is our preferred method of payment. You can use credit card (or bank account) to be automatically debited on the 15th of each Month. Alternative payment methods are available, however they will incur a $5.00 processing fee. Please speak to the Treasurer ( if you wish to discuss further.
